3/3/10 Katie's Healthy Eating Journal: Tuesday

by Katie (Jenny Craig 2009 Poster Girl) 2. March 2010 22:53

Since I'm pretty much a no sugar or as little as possible person I am always looking for artificial sweeteners.  Splenda upsets my stomach so there's no way I can use that...trust me, you wouldn't want to be in the same room as me.  I read in my book, Skinny Bitch, that sweet and low (or any artificial sweeteners for that matter are not good for you) because they contain aspartame.  Aspartame is a poison to our bodies which can cause cancers, seizures, and even death.   Well what's a girl to do?  Everything I eat is sugar-free because my body just cannot handle sugar - instantly I gain.  I was so excited last year when I started seeing PureVia and Truvia on my grocery store's shelves.  They're "claim to fame" is that they're natural; taken from the leaves of a stevia plant.  Even better it does not have any calories, nor does it increase your blood sugar level, and it actually tastes sweet!  Unfortunately I did some research and while these "natural sugars" have been permitted for decades overseas, up until recently, the FDA had banned them in America.  Large, rich American corporations have had a hand in altering these two sugars and one can't help but wonder if an influence in money helped encourage the FDA to finally approve them...
