Fibromyalgia is a very painful syndrome (meaning that it is a set of symptoms that happens together, but they don’t know the cause) that causes widespread pain in the muscles and surrounding tissue. http://www.cincinnati.md/kbviewer.aspx?query=Fibromyalgia&s=1&hwid=hw196365.
In this medical condition, the nervous system doesn’t communicate how it feels, so it takes ordinary communications from the brain and feels them as pain. In other words, people with fibromyalgia, feel pain even if there is no literal source for the pain, due to a body/brain miscommunication. It doesn’t hurt your joints, but it zaps all your energy.
There are things to be done to ‘manage’ the symptoms. If this is done successfully, people experiencing the syndrome can function in society. Though it may seem like the last thing you want to do if experiencing this kind of pain, but exercising is important. Low-impact activities such as walking, dancing, water aerobics and pilates help relieve the symptoms. Light weight training and stretching also help. Doing exercise helps physically build up endurance and muscle tone, but it also helps relieve stress which helps anyone with or without an illness.
Since they are unsure about the cause of fibromyalgia, then they can’t say with certainty what will help, but a lot of sufferers have found positive results when they stay active and eat a balanced diet.
